CONTEST: Earth Day Celebration - Winners!

Journal Entry: Fri May 2, 2008, 1:19 PM
  • Mood: Artistic
============================

:bulletblue: First Place: "Destiny" by P.G. - [link] :bulletblue:

This picture with its nice blend of Blues and Yellows, along with a tribute to 2001: A Space Odyssey captured the essence of Earth Day very well. The message is blunt, but precise and to the point. The textures in the paints were very nice too. :D

:bulletgreen: Second Place: "Change is Everything" by *KashaPaw - [link] :bulletgreen:

I liked the night sky with the flowing ocean background. Also, the character holding the globe in her hands was a good touch.

:bulletred: Third Place: N/A

So thanks again to both participants! May Earth Day make an even bigger impact next year. :)

-------------------------

The contest is now closed. The two entries submitted are:

i. "Destiny" by P.G. - [link]
ii. "Change is Everything" by *KashaPaw - [link]

The first artist isn't part of deviantArt, so I'm hosting it in my Photobucket portfolio for now. Both these entries were very nice. :) Be sure to check these entires out yourself.

Thanks again to both participants. The judging has begun!

-------------------------
Every year, we pass this little known holiday here in the US and A. [link] Earth Day as some of us know, is a day designated by the Government as a day to reflect and act on environmental progress.

Every year however, we cruise right on by the day, and nothing... ever really happens. No reflections, no acting, nothing really happens, it's a "take a breath of fresh air" day I suppose.

I want that to change. Earth Day shouldn't be about Environmental government policy. It should be about we people sharing joy and happiness on this planet Earth. Earth day should we a celebration of being alive. Living life to the fullest, and enjoying our limited time here on Earth. We only have each other and this big rock of ours, we should celebrate and cherish this day as Spring blooms and flourishes as the landscape comes alive with life once more. This day should be our understanding of life and being, and how we live with other life and the world around us.

With that said, I'm holding a contest! To all those who wish to participate, you must create and develop a painting, digital painting, sculpture, or any other kind of media, to express celebration of Earth Day. :earth:

Subjects/Characters: Any and all. Yours, mine, new ones, old ones. =p Be it cartoony or real-style subjects.

Setting: Anything which truly captures the essence of being alive, celebrating our time with each other, and/or celebrating life itself.

Restrictions: Sorry, restrictions are restrictions. ;) Your piece must be a colored finished work, finished sculpture, etc etc.. You can also submit a Black and white finished shaded piece.

How to Participate: Contact me! I'll put your Dev Icon into the Entries section down below.

Submitting: When you're finished, post it up and send me a note. I'll then post your piece right here next to your Dev Icon.

Judging: Me! :bucktooth: Judging will hopefully be completed by May 1st. Depends on late submissions.

Prizes:

:bulletgreen: First Place: A digital painting in color of any character in any setting you wish.

:bulletpurple: Second Place: A digital cell painting in color of any character in any setting you wish.

:bulletblue: Third Place: A digital cell painting in color of any character you wish.

:bulletred: All runners up: To everyone who participates (including 1st, 2nd, & 3rd), a Black & White group drawing of any one character of their choosing. :) If enough time in my daily schedule madness is open, it will be a colored cell painting in a serene setting. This depends on how many people actually do it.

"Your piece must be a colored finished work, finished sculpture, etc etc.. However, you can submit a Black and white finished shaded piece."

Well, that shoots any chance of me being able to enter since I've got plenty of sculptures on my plate already and can't do anything but flood-filled doodles. :XD:

I look forward to seeing what others devise, though, and really like the whole idea! YAY FOR EARTH DAY! :w00t:

I find the whole earth day thing somewhat hilarious.

Maybe I'll draw some people beating up Al Gore.

Aww. I'm sorry there wasn't more interest. :(

At least you have enough to have a WINNER and a LOSER! :#1: Or two winners.
